Oticon (Official Website) is a well established manufacturer of hearing instruments and hearing technology. Oticon is a subsidiary of William Demant Holdings, and employs over 3000 people worldwide. They have recently moved their primary manufacturing plant to Poland
History
Based in Denmark, and founded in 1904, they have been supplying hearing aids throughout Europe for over 100 years. With their enviable history, they can claim to have seen all elements in hearing aid progression; from carbon body-worn hearing aids, to miniature digital devices.
Range of Products
Oticon have a full range of hearing aid styles, which includes their flagship model; the OPN which comes in a Receiver in the Ear (RITE) model.
Innovations
In 2016, Oticon released the first internet-connected (“If This Then That”) hearing aid and were one of the first companies to employ the “open-sound” approach to hearing in noise. Rather than using narrow directionality, Oticon employed their “brain hearing” which made all environmental sounds accessible, but not intrusive. Many users have reported “a more natural sound”.
Awards
Oticon has been recognised for their innovation and expertise, winning many awards over the last few years. The OPN was awarded Best Premium Hearing Aid at the 2017 AIHHP Golden Lobes.
Other accolades include; Multiple winners of AIHHP’s Best Technical Support, and a Gold Award for Innovation and Excellence in Product Development at the 2017 Edison Awards Gala in New York City.
The OPN was also awarded the 2017 RedDot Design Award, and two CES Awards.
